EMCORE Announces 60 Gbps Double Data Rate 12 Channel Parallel Optical Modules for InfiniBand Applications

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., March 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EMCORE Corporation (Nasdaq: EMKR), a leading provider of compound semiconductor-based components and subsystems for the broadband, fiber optic, satellite, and solar power markets, today announced that it has begun sampling its new Double Data Rate (DDR) 12 channel 60 Gbps modules. EMCORE believes it offers one of the broadest available InfiniBand(R) parallel optical module product portfolio supporting cost effective parallel optical data communications. EMCORE's product portfolio supports high-end server applications including optical backplanes, board-to-board and shelf-to-shelf interconnects.

The MTX/RX9552 is a 12 channel 60 Gbps DDR product, doubling the speed of the existing single data rate (SDR) SNAP12. The DDR modules are currently sampling to customers at data rates of 5 Gbps per channel featuring low power consumption and an improved digital management interface.

The Mini, MTX/RX9542, is the second new product offering that offers DDR bandwidth with less than half the footprint. Originally designed for broad temperature range military applications, the Mini's small form factor allows commercial end users to dramatically increase card density and bandwidth.

Chris Wiggins, Parallel Product Line Manager, said, "To date, EMCORE has shipped over 20,000 pairs of the 12 channel parallel optical modules to market." He added, "This will be the company's fourth generation of 12 channel parallel optical products. Furthermore the DDR platform is especially exciting because it provides scalability up to 10 Gbps per channel meeting the future needs of 100 Gigabit Ethernet applications."

All of the EMCORE DDR 12 channel module products allow for extended reach of up to 150 meter transmission over industry standard multimode optical fibers with MTP/MPO optical connectors. In addition, the modules feature a 100 pin Mega-Array(TM) electrical connectors and as an added feature, each of the 12 TX and RX channels can be individually controlled and configured, allowing for greater performance and flexibility in customer applications.

The EMCORE DDR Product Portfolio will be on display at the OFC/NFOEC conference in Anaheim, CA, March 27-29th, 2007 at Booth 3142. For more information on these products and EMCORE, please visit http://www.emcore.com.
